Emergency companies had been unable to entry a significant crash involving eight automobiles on the M25 as a result of drivers ignoring lane closures.

The incident befell between Junction 5 and 6 on the anti-clockwise carriageway in Godstone, Kent, at round 9am on Sunday.

The eight-vehicle crash led to vital delays for motorists and site visitors jams occurring for miles.

A police spokesman stated there have been no life-threatening accidents and the highway was cleared inside a few hours.

However some automobiles ignored the lane closures, leading to emergency companies struggling to attend the crash web site.

Surrey Police stated in a tweet: “If on the M25 close to the RTC between Jnc 6 and 5 please obey the lane closures.

“South East Coast Ambulance Service are reporting they can not get additional assets to the scene as a result of closures being ignored and the carriageway being fully blocked!”

One driver who was caught within the jams stated on Twitter: “Caught on M25 in huge jam due 2 an accident. Individuals blocking quick lane which is signed preserve clear for emergency companies must be completely ashamed of themselves.”

One other added: “So indignant at egocentric motorists for ignoring lane closed, accident indicators & blocking 999 companies. Must be a motoring offence. #M25 #accident.”

Jack Tappin of Highways England instructed Sky Information: “A crimson X must be handled as equal to a no entry signal as a result of it means you should not be in that lane.

“When drivers see a crimson X they need to take motion to soundly get out of that lane and never trigger obstruction for any emergency companies or site visitors officers.”

He added that those that don’t obey the closures could possibly be given a £100 effective by police and three licence factors.
