FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Police in Florida say a person inadvertently confirmed officers two lifeless alligators saved within the trunk of his automobile when he went to give up stolen fishing gear.

Information retailers report a Fort Pierce police report says 25-year-old Christian Thomas Elmore was seen Monday leaving a Walmart with the stolen gear. It says the shop’s loss prevention officer confronted him and requested him to return to the shop.

It says cops then arrived and Elmore agreed to return the gear. It says they walked to Elmore’s automobile and he opened the truck, revealing the stolen gear and lifeless alligators. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Fee took the lifeless animals.

Elmore was arrested and charged with theft and killing or possessing alligators. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
